RHS Girls Fourth, Boys Seventh in Season Opener

Shaffer Field at Russell High SchoolThe Russell High School track and field teams got their season underway on Friday, April 5 at home with the Russell Invitational at Shaffer Field.

The RHS girls took fourth with 86.5 points while the boys were seventh with 34. Plainville swept the team titles. The girls scored 139.5 points and boys 162 points.

Renee Nichol and Kaylee Hoss led the Russell girls. Nichol won the long jump and triple jump and was fourth in the 200 M dash. Hoss took first in the shot put and was fifth in the discus and javelin. Jordynn Guenot was third in the 100 M dash and 300 M hurdles. Camille Dortland placed third in t he 3200 M run and was fourth in the 800 M run. Hannah Gruber took fourth in the 1600 M run. Rylan Reeves was fourth in the 300 M hurdles. Audrey Buzzell tied for fourth in the 100 M dash. The 4x100 M relay team finished third.

Jesse Whitmer had a solid day for the RHS boys. Whitmer won the 100 M dash, took third in the 300 M hurdles and was fifth in the 200 M dash. Braydon Gibson placed third in the 400 M dash. LaAries Winzerling was sixth in the triple jump and tied for seventh in the 400 M dash. Jacob Windholz tied for seventh in the 400 M dash and was eighth in the long jump.

Russell competes in the Ellsworth Invite on Tuesday, April 9. Events begin at 3:30 PM.
