RHS Girls Eighth, Boys Ninth at Russell Relays

Track Start Finish Line PictureThe Russell High School track and field team hosted the 59th annual Russell Relays on Friday, May 3 at Shaffer Field.

The RHS girls finished eighth with 34 points and the boys ninth with 16 points. TMP-Marian took the girls team title with 131 points and beat second place Scott City by 24.5 points. Scott City won the boys team title with 160 points and easily beat Beloit, who finished second with 134.5 points.

Renee Nichol and Kaylee Hoss led the Russell girls. Nichol won the long jump and placed second in the triple jump. Hoss finished second in the shot put and was seventh in the discus. Camille Dortland took sixth in the 800 M run. Jordynn Guenot was sixth in the 300 M hurdles.

For the RHS boys, Jesse Whitmer won the 100 M dash and was third in the 200 M dash.

Russell will compete in the NCAA league meet hosted by Sacred Heart in Salina on Friday, May 10. Events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
