Russell Legion Baseball PatchGame 1: Russell 4, Hoisington 3

Game 2: Hoisington 13, Russell 1

The Russell American Legion Post 99 Senior Baseball team played on home turf for the first time this season and split a doubleheader with Hoisington at Shaffer Field.

In Game 1, Russell earned the 4-3 victory with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Post 99 tied the game when Cole Schmidtberger came home on a dropped third strike and then won the game moments later on a walk-off single by Walker Braun that scored Rhett Pospichal.  Pospichal and Caden Oberle each recorded two hits for Russell while Kyle Farmer picked up the win in relief.

The second game was all Hoisington as they broke things open with a seven-run outburst in the top of the second inning then scored three runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings on their way to the 13-1 run-rule win.  Braun scored Russell's lone run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fourth.  Brendon Burhle took the loss on the mound.

Russell is next in action on Sunday when they host Beloit in a doubleheader at Shaffer Field with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
