Diamond Diablos Place 3rd at Quicksilver Invitational

Softball 2The Russell Diamond Diablos after seeing last weekend's games canceled by rain turned in an impressive third place showing Saturday at the Quicksilver Invitational held at the Great Bend Sports Complex.

Their first game of pool play was against the Salina Braves and it ended in dramatic fashion.  The Diablos trailed 4-3 heading into their final at bat.  They tied the score when Madison Davis scored on a passed ball then won the game when Kendra Bay stole home.  Next up was the Hays Hustle, which the Diablos defeated 10-5.  Rylee Miller was the winning pitcher and Bay piacked up the save with two innings of work.

Later Saturday, the Diablos took on Quicksilver and hammered them 13-2.  Russell scored all 13 of their runs during a third-inning outburst offering Bay plenty of support in the pitcher's circle.  The final game of the day was against Beloit and Russell fell 10-5.  The difference in the ballgame was a big fifth inning by Beloit as Bay took the loss.

The Diablos finished the tournament played in 100-plus degree temeperatures with a record of 3-1. Their overall record for the season is now 8-3.  They will travel to Hutchinson for another tournament on July 6 and 7.
