Natoma Takes Down Fowler

Natoma TigersNATOMA-The Natoma Tigers were victorious in their home opener and Homecoming game Friday as they defeated Fowler 34-14 at Tiger Field in a game that was called at halftime due to injuries affecting the Fowler team.

The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove 44 yards in five plays capping it with a 23-yard touchdown run by Shayne Engling, the one-point run was good and Natoma was ahead 7-0.  The lead lasted exactly 12 seconds as Fowler's Darien De La Torre returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown and the Goldbugs took an 8-7 lead after the two-point kick was successful.

After punting on their next possession,  Natoma stopped Fowler on downs and then got the ball back and drove 41 yards in four plays with Kayden Martinez finding Jayson Engling for a 24-yard touchdown pass to give Natoma a 13-8 lead.  On the final play of the first quarter, Natoma extended the lead when Shayne Engling scored his second touchdown of the game from eight yards out for a 20-8 advantage. 

The Goldbugs began their next drive backed up on their 10-yard line when Quarterback Alex De La Torre was unable to handle the snap and the ball went through the back of the end zone giving Natoma a safety and a 22-8 margin.  Martinez then widened the lead three minutes later with a five-yard run and Natoma's advantage was 28-8 with 6:25 to go in the second quarter.  Fowler found the end zone again with three minutes left before halftime on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Alex De La Torre to Blaze Bilodeau making the score 28-14.  Natoma scored again with 42 seconds left in the half on a 26-yard run by Jayce Dickerson to make the score 34-14 at intermission.

During halftime Homecoming ceremonies Alyvia Zeigler was crowned Homecoming Queen and Shayne Engling was King.

Just as the second half was about to begin, the game was suddenly called citing injury concerns for Fowler.

Natoma (1-1) will play the first of two straight games on the road next Friday when they travel to Deerfield.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
