Cheylin Rolls Past Natoma

Natoma TigersNATOMA-The Natoma Tigers Football team played their final home game of the season Friday evening at Tiger Field against undefeated Cheylin in a contest with playoff implications.

Cheylin scored first with 7:04 left in the opening quarter on a six-yard touchdown pass from Colton McCarty to Andrew Schields for a 7-0 lead.   After stopping the Tigers on downs, the Cougars found the end zone again when Schields scored from 26 yards out but Cheylin missed the PAT and settled for a 13-0 advantage.

McCarty, who leads the state in Rushing with over 1,300 yards and 22 touchdowns did his damage through the air connecting on a pair of touchdown passes to Tyler Sabatka of 36 and 64 yards respectively to build the lead up to 26-0 early in the second quarter.  Natoma twice got inside the 20-yard line of the Cougars but one drive ended on a fumble by Shayne Engling at the eight-yard line and other one ended on an incomplete pass. From there Cheylin scored once more on Schield's third touchdown of the game, a 41-yard run to lead 33-0.

Natoma finally got on the scoreboard late in the first half on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Tracen Frye to Jayce Dickerson but the PAT was no good and the score remained 33-6 with 27.1 seconds left before halftime.  At that point play was halted and the game went into a lightning delay which lasted approximately two hours and 25 minutes before the game was suspended.  The game resumed late Saturday afternoon at Golden Plains High School in Rexford and Cheylin picked up right where they left off scoring three more touchdowns before the game ended in the third quarter with a final score of 53-6.

Natoma (4-3, 2-2) will wrap up the regular season next Friday, October 25 on the road at Cunningham.
