Russell's Baldwin and Windholz Both Place Fifth, Sylvan-Lucas' Barrientes Captures State Championship

2020 KSHSAA Boys State Wrestling LogoThree area wrestlers captured medals at the Class 3-2-1A State Tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays on Saturday, February 29.

Tra Barrientes from Sylvan-Lucas won the state championship in his weight class, while Russell's Stephan Baldwin and Jacob Windholz each placed fifth.

Barrientes went 4-0 at 285 pounds and finished his junior season with an impressive 39-1 record. Baldwin had a 3-2 record at 120 pounds and wound up his season and high school career with a 40-12 mark. The RHS senior also broke the school record for takedowns. Windholz also had a 3-2 record at state at 132 pounds and ended his sophomore season at 37-7.

Russell had one other state qualifier. Freshman Brayden Strobel went 0-2 and finished the season at 13-19.
