Russell Boys End Season at Beloit

The Russell High School boys basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 74-37 first round sub-state loss at top-seeded Beloit on Monday, March 2.

Beloit jumped out to a 17-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back, leading 37-15 at halftime and 56-25 after three periods. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

Seniors Jacob Sohm and Rhett Pospichal led Russell with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Caleb Burks paced the Trojans with 14 points. Owen Eilert followed with 12 points. Bryce Mason scored 11 points and Hudson Gray scored 10 points.

The Broncos committed 18 turnovers compared to only four for Beloit.

Beloit also out-rebounded Russell 35 to 24 and 14 to five on the offensive glass.

The Russell boys finish the season 2-19 overall and 0-12 in the NCAA.

Beloit moves on and will play Norton on Thursday in Beloit in the semifinals. Norton upset Minneapolis 55-49 on Monday. Also Monday, the Hoisington boys defeated Concordia 66-24 and the TMP-Marian boys beat Phillipsburg 42-38. Hoisington and TMP will meet Thursday in Beloit.
