Blaine Maier Named Head Coach of RHS Boys Basketball

Blaine MaierLongtime Russell High School teacher Blaine Maier has been named head coach of the boys basketball team at RHS.

The hire was approved Monday by the USD 407 Board of Education.

Maier is a math teacher at RHS. He has been an educator in USD 407 since 1998. He has taught, coached and served as an advisor in several capacities during his time in Russell.

This will be Maier's second stint as head coach of boys basketball at RHS as he also coached for two seasons in the early 2000s.

Before coming to Russell, he also coached and taught at Phillipsburg from 1988 to 1992 and Hoxie from 1992 to 1997.

Maier actually served as interim head coach of the Broncos for the last few games of this past season as previous head coach Michael Coleman stepped away from the program in February.

The USD 407 Board of Education also approved the hires of David Hanzlick and Christien Ozores as assistant boys basketball coaches at RHS.
