Tigers Blank Northern Valley in Season Opener

Natoma TigersNATOMA-Kaden Martinez rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns and the Natoma defense forced six turnovers as the Tigers won their long-awaited season opener with a 33-0 rout of 6-Man newcomer Northern Valley on Friday afternoon.

Natoma, which had their originally scheduled season opener last week at Western Plains-Healy cancelled, jumped on the board within the game's first five minutes when Quarterback Tracen Frye connected with Jayson Engling on an 18-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead after the conversion.  Later in the period, Martinez found the end zone from two yards out and Natoma led 13-0 after the first 10 minutes.

Martinez scored again from three yards out midway through the second quarter but just like following the previous touchdown, the conversion was no good and the Tigers went into halftime with a 19-0 lead after just missing two other scoring opportunities.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Tiger defense hit paydirt in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter when Derek George fell on a fumble by Huskies Quarterback Jeremiah Hansen in the end zone and the conversion was good to swell the Tiger lead to 26-0.  The last tally of the game occurred when Martinez rumbled 13 yards for his third touchdown of the afternoon and the conversion was good to provide the final margin of 33-0.

Natoma, playing their first game under new head coach Brian Patterson, rushed for 132 yards and cranked out 162 yards of total offense while the Tiger defense held Northern Valley (1-1), playing its second game in 6-Man Football after several years in the 8-Man ranks to just one net yard rushing and 104 yards of total offense while forcing six fumbles.

Natoma (1-0) will hit the road for the first time in 2020 next Friday when they travel to Weskan.  The Tigers won a wild game from the Coyotes last season at Weskan 65-61.
