Sacred Heart Too Much for Russell

RHS FootballThe Russell High School football team fell behind early and never recovered as they fell to Sacred Heart 60-12 at Shaffer Field in Russell on Friday, Oct. 5.

The Knights (5-1 overall, 3-1 NCAA) jumped out a 16-0 lead less than four minutes into the game on a pair of touchdowns and a safety.

The Broncos (1-5, 1-5) made it 16-6 on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Alex Baldwin to Dylan Walker late in the first quarter.

But after that, it was all Sacred Heart.

The Knights led 23-6 after one quarter, 44-6 at halftime and 58-12 after three quarters.

Sacred Heart scored touchdowns on six of their first seven possessions.  They also added a defensive touchdown and punt return for a touchdown.

The Knights outgained Russell 268-116 in total yards and held the Broncos to just one yard in the second half.

Alex Baldwin completed 3-of-9 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown to lead Russell.  Eric Rourke had two catches.  Chase Prester ran for 31 yards.

Aaron Diederich had three catches for 85 yards and two TDs for Sacred Heart.  His twin brother, Drew, ran for 65 yards and a score.

Russell opens district play against TMP (1-5) on Friday in Hays.  Kickoff is at 7pm at Lewis Field Stadium.  Countdown to Kickoff begins at 6:30pm on Classic Hits 95.9 and www.krsl.com.
