RHS Splits Opener at Ellinwood

Madison Beagley scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Russell High School girls basketball team to a 50-35 season-opening win in Ellinwood on Friday, Nov. 30.
The Lady Broncos built a 23-15 lead at halftime. The Lady Eagles charged back on a 13-4 run to go up 28-27 late in the third quarter. Russell took back control with a 14-0 run to end the third and start the fourth quarters and pulled away for the victory.
Along with Beagley's big night, Alex Ptacek scored eight points. Savanna Huff and Janna Schulte each had six.
In the boys game, Ellinwood used an 18-4 first half run to grab control and won 50-35 over Russell.
The game was tied a 10 midway through the first quarter before the Eagles' big run. Ellinwood led 30-19 at halftime. The Broncos cut the deficit to 10 early in the third quarter, but never could get closer and suffered their 20th-straight loss dating back to last season.
Keltonn Morris had nine points for Russell. Brandon Bachar, Tucker Kaufman and Eric Rourke each scored six points.
Ellinwood outscored Russell 24-3 from the foul line.
Russell opens play in the Morris-Stephens Classic on Tuesday against Lincoln. The girls game begins at 5:45pm with the boys to follow around 7:30pm at Amos Morris Gym in Russell. Catch both games on Classic Hits 95.9 and www.krsl.com.Read More Sports
