RHS Drops Friday Games at Morris-Stephens Classic

The Russell High School girls basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Friday, Dec. 7, falling to Plainville 47-40 in the semifinals of the Amos Morris-George Stephens Classic in Russell.
The two teams traded the lead five times through three quarters with neither building a lead larger than five. Plainville, though, took control early in the fourth quarter. The Lady Cardinals went on a 14-6 run to break a 30-30 tie. Russell got back within four late, but no closer.
Madison Beagley scored 15 points to pace Russell (2-1). Chantal Prester followed with seven.
In the boys game, Russell fell to Nickerson 65-38 in the consolation round and dropped to 0-3 on the season.
The Broncos trailed 30-22 at halftime, but were outscored 17-9 and 18-7 in the third and fourth quarters.
Keltonn Morris scored 14 points for the Broncos. Tucker Kaufman had seven and Riley Pfannenstiel five.
The Russell girls take on Ellsworth in the third place game on Saturday at 2pm at the RHS Gym. The Russell boys also play Ellsworth in the seventh place game at 3:30pm at the RMS Gym. Catch both games on Classic Hits 95.9 and www.krsl.com.
