RHS Splits at Ellsworth

The Russell girls moved to 12-3 overall and 5-2 in the NCAA with a 54-39 win over Ellsworth on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the EHS Gym.
The Lady Broncos jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and were never really challenged after that. Russell led 34-20 at halftime, 47-31 after three quarters and went up by as many as 21 in the fourth.
Janna Schulte scored a career-high 18 points to lead three Lady Broncos in double-figures. Madison Beagley had 15 points and Savannah Huff hit a pair of three's and finished with 14 points.
The Russell boys made a strong bid of their second win of the season, but fell short and lost 49-40 to Ellsworth.
The game was tied at 23 at halftime and 29 late in the third quarter before Ellsworth went on an 11-0 run to go up 40-29. The Broncos trimmed the deficit to seven midway through the fourth quarter, but could not get closer.
Eric Rourke scored 10 points to lead Russell. Brandon Bachar and Austin Donovan followed with six points each.
The Broncos fall to 1-14 overall and 1-6 in the NCAA.
Russell returns home Friday to host Republic County. It is also Winter Sports Night. The girls game begins at 6pm with the boys to follow around 7:45pm.
