Russell Splits at Sacred Heart

The Russell girls trailed much of the first three quarters, but rallied in the fourth and held on for a 40-37 win over Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Salina.
The Lady Broncos fell behind by as many as nine in the first half before cutting the deficit to 18-16 at halftime. The game was tied at 26 after three quarters. Sacred Heart scored the first five to open the fourth quarter to go up 31-26. Russell then went on a 10-0 run to take a 36-31 lead. The Lady Knights cut Russell's lead to 38-37 late before Madison Beagley hit a pair of free throws and Alex Ptacek stole a pass to seal the victory.
Beagley finished the game with 15 points to pace the Lady Broncos. Janna Schulte had eight. Ptacek and Chantal Prester each had six.
Russell improves to 13-4 overall and 6-3 in the NCAA.
Sacred Heart controlled the boys game from start to finish and won 60-23.
Russell held an early 2-0 lead, but after that, it was all Knights. Sacred Heart led 9-2 after one quarter, 31-9 at halftime and 49-17 after three quarters.
Tucker Kaufman led Russell with eight points. Austin Donovan and Keltonn Morris each had five points.
The Broncos fall to 1-16 overall and 1-8 in league play.
