Russell Swept in Beloit

The Russell girls missed a chance to clinch the top-spot in the Norton 3A Sub-State as they lost 46-41 to Beloit on Friday, Feb. 8 at the BHS Gym.
The Lady Broncos trailed 24-18 at halftime and 34-24 after three quarters. Russell rallied to within two twice in the fourth quarter, but never could take the lead. Beloit held off the Lady Broncos by going 10 of 10 from the free throw line in the quarter and 20 of 22 for the game.
Chantal Prester and Madison Beagley each scored 10 points to lead Russell. Megan Boxberger had eight points off the bench.
The Lady Broncos fall to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in the NCAA. Russell needs to win one of their final two regular-season games to earn the #1 seed in their sub-state.
In the boys game, Beloit all-state forward Austin Budke suffered a cut above his nose late in the first quarter while diving for a ball and did not return. Russell could not take advantage and lost 75-36 to the Trojans.
Beloit, who's ranked third in Class 3A, led 23-8 after one quarter, 44-15 at halftime and 68-29 after three quarters.
Reshean Holloway scored nine points and Eric Rourke seven for Russell.
The Broncos drop to 1-17 overall and 1-9 in the NCAA.
Russell plays their final home games of the regular-season on Friday against SE-Saline. It is also senior recognition night.Read More Sports
