RHS Opens at Republic Co. Invite

RHS Track and FieldThe Russell High School track and field team opened their season on Thursday, March 28 at the Republic Co. Invitational in Belleville.

The RHS boys tied Smoky Valley for last out of six teams with 43 points.  Beloit won the team title with 226 points.  Minneapolis was second with 97.  Concordia was third with 74.

The Russell girls finished last with 17 points.  Concordia edged Beloit for the team title with 177 points.  Beloit had 158.  Smoky Valley was third with 78 points.

The Russell boys earned one gold.  Gage Nichols won the discus.  Chris Hilger took second in the 200 M dash and third in the pole vault.  Noah Gfeller finished third in the 400 M dash and fourth in the long jump.  Reshean Holloway was third in the high jump.  David Crawford took fifth in the 200 M dash.  The RHS boys 4x100 relay team was fifth.

For the Russell girls, Hannah Hoch was fourth in the 3200 and fifth in the 1600 M runs.  Alyssa Basgall placed fourth in the long jump.  Julia Oste finished sixth in the 100 M hurdles.  Megan Quinday was sixth in the 1600 M run.  Sammy Wedel took sixth in the 200 M dash.  The RHS girls 4x100 relay team was fourth.

Russell hosts their own invitational on Thursday beginning at 4pm.
