Russell Splits at Ellsworth

The Russell High School softball team opened NCAA league play with a split at Ellsworth on Tuesday, April 2.

The Lady Broncos pounded out 15 hits and won the opener 15-5.  In game two, Russell fell behind 9-3 after third inning, rallied to within one, but never took the lead and lost 11-9.

Anna Plante (1-1) tossed a complete game, seven-hitter in game one to earn the win.  Chantal Prester (0-2) took the loss in relief in game two, allowing nine runs on eight hits in one inning.

Russell had 28 hits in the doubleheader.  Prester and Anna Plante led the way with five hits each.  Madison Beagley, Megan Boxberger and Kaci Nuss each had four hits.

The Lady Broncos are now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Russell travels to Salina to play Sacred Heart on Thursday.  Game one of the doubleheader begins at 4:30pm.
