Lady Broncos Win Regional Opener

RHS SoftballThe Russell High School softball team edged Plainville-Natoma 5-3 in the opening round of the Russell 3A Regional on Monday, May 13 at the Memorial Park Complex.

The Lady Broncos scored two in the first inning and two more in the second to go up 4-1.  Russell added another run in the fourth inning to lead 5-1.  Plainville-Natoma scored two in the top of the sixth to pull within two, but could not get closer.

Anna Plante (9-7) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out four over six innings for the win.  Chantal Prester (1) pitched the seventh for the save.

Prester and Plante each had two hits.  Prester also drove in two runs and Plante one.

Russell is now 11-10 and will take on Sacred Heart (14-2) in the semifinals on Tuesday at 3pm in Russell.  You can listen to the game on Classic Hits 95.9 and krsl.com.

In Monday's other first round games... Ellsworth rolled by Republic Co. 10-1 and Beloit topped Minneapolis 11-3.  Ellsworth and Beloit square off in Russell in Tuesday's second semifinal game at 4:30pm.  The regional championship game follows around 6pm.
