Russell Hosts Vintage Baseball Game

A vintage baseball game featuring several local participants was played Sunday, June 2 in Russell at the Memorial Park Complex - the first of hopefully several more matches of its kind, according to Mike Blanke, Director of the Russell Recreation Commission.
The local team, named the Prairie Clippers in honor of the first ever recognized baseball team in Russell that was formed in 1875, beat a traveling vintage baseball team Sunday known as the Hodgeman 9 by the final score of 16 to 3.
Blanke says he hopes to have the Clippers play at least three or four more games this summer, and depending on interest and how well it goes, maybe look at expanding the team and schedule next year.
