Russell Drops District Opener to TMP

The Russell High School football team fell behind 21-0 less than five minutes into their Class 3A, District 15 opener and ended up losing 49-0 to rival Thomas More Prep at Shaffer Field in Russell on Friday, Oct. 18.
The Monarchs (2-5) led 21-0 after the first quarter, 42-0 at halftime and added one more touchdown in the third quarter.
TMP outgained the Broncos 272-88 in total yards and forced Russell into four turnovers.
Zach Boxberger had 37 yards rushing for Russell and Chase Prester 34.
TMP's Max Megaffin passed for 114 yards and three touchdowns - two to Ryan Mayorga and another to Cameron Fouts. Nick Schmidt rushed for 130 yards and two TD's.
Russell falls to 1-6 overall, 0-1 in district play and has been outscored 165-0 over their last three games.
The Broncos will need a win over Hoisington on Friday to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Cardinals are 2-4 after losing their district opener to Scott City 14-0.
