TMP Girls, Boys Too Much for Russell

Boys: TMP-Marian 79, Russell 23
The Russell High School girls basketball team battled hard, but couldn't grab its fourth win in a row as the Lady Broncos fell 53-44 to TMP-Marian in Hays Friday night.
The Lady Broncos trailed 10-8 at the end of one, 23-20 at halftime, 37-31 at the end of the third quarter, eventually losing by nine points.
Alex Ptacek led Russell with a career-high 14 points. Lena Wedel and Megan Boxberger both finished with nine points, a new career high for Wedel. Kyleigh Kasper totaled 11 rebounds.
Russell falls to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.
In the boys game, Russell suffered another big loss as TMP throttled the Broncos Friday night, 79-23.
The Broncos trailed 29-2 after the first quarter, 50-12 at the half, 72-21 at the end of three and never came close to getting back into the ballgame.
Russell's leading scorer was Reshean Holloway with nine. He also led the Broncos in rebounds with six.
The Broncos fall to 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the NCAA.
Russell will next participate in the Hoisington Winter Jam January 20-25. The girls first round game will be held Monday, January 20 at 6:30 PM at the Hoisington Activity Center (HAC). The Lady Broncos will take on Ellsworth. The boys first round game will be held Tuesday, January 21 at 4:45 PM at the HAC. The Broncos will take on Minneapolis.
