RHS Girls Advance to Sub-State Championship Game

RHS BasketballThe Russell girls hit 14 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter to earn a 44-37 win over Larned on Thursday, March 6 and earn a spot in Saturday night's sub-state championship game in Russell.

The Lady Broncos led nearly wire-to-wire, but never could pull away from Larned. Russell was up 20-17 at halftime and 28-23 after three quarters. The Lady Indians got as close as two early in the fourth quarter, but never took the lead as the Lady Broncos used solid free throw shooting to secure the victory.

Megan Boxberger scored 12 points, Janna Schulte 10, Kyleigh Kasper nine and Lena Wedel seven to lead Russell.

Allyson Aldrich had 18 points for Larned (5-16).

Russell improves to 12-9 and will take on Pratt (15-6) on Saturday at 6pm. Pratt beat Nickerson 62-22 on Thursday. Saturday's winner advances to the Class 4A Div. 2 State Tournament at Hartman Arena in Wichita next week.
