Pratt Denies RHS Girls Trip to State

RHS BasketballThe Russell girls went into Saturday night's Class 4A Div. 2 Sub-State Championship game against Pratt aiming for their second-straight trip to state, but it wasn't meant to be as the Lady Greenbacks used a smothering defensive effort to grab a 48-30 victory at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.

The Lady Broncos held an early 2-0 lead, but after that, Pratt controlled the game. The Lady Greenbacks led 12-6 after one quarter and then used a 15-2 run to finish the half to go up 27-10 at halftime. Pratt led 37-19 after three quarters and went up by as many as 22 in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Greenbacks' full court press forced Russell into 12 first half turnovers and 19 for the game.

Kyleigh Kasper had 10 points to lead the Lady Broncos. Megan Boxberger and Sam Ptacek each had five points.

Jenson Maydew, who will play at Missouri Southern University, scored a game-high 21 points for Pratt.

Russell finishes the season with a 12-10 record.

Pratt (16-6) advances to state for the third-consecutive year and will compete in the 4A Div. 2 State Tournament at Hartman Arena in Park City next week.
