Russell Swept by Ellsworth

RHS SoftballRussell and Ellsworth combined for 74 runs in a doubleheader that last nearly five and a half hours on Tuesday, April 8 at the Memorial Park Complex in Russell.

Despite scoring 40 of those runs, the Lady Broncos were not able to notch their first win as they were swept by Ellsworth in their league opener.

Russell rallied from an early 6-0 deficit in the opener to make it 6-5, but the Lady Bearcats scored five runs in the fifth inning and pulled away for a 17-10 victory. In game two, the Lady Broncos used a nine-run fourth inning to grab a 17-12 lead, but Ellsworth rallied back with six runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to earn a 24-23 victory.

Russell had 25 hits in the doubleheader. Megan Boxberger led the way with seven hits. Kyleigh Kasper had five.

Kayle Radke (0-4) took the loss in each game.

Russell falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the NCAA. The Lady Broncos wrap up a six-game season-opening home stand on Friday against Sacred Heart. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 4pm.
