Russell Swept by Thomas More Prep

RHS BaseballThe Russell High School baseball team suffered a pair of one-run losses to rival TMP in their regular-season finale on Monday, May 12 at the TMP Field in Hays.

The Broncos lost each game by a final score of 4-3.

In game one, TMP (14-4) scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to go up 4-2. Russell plated a run with two outs in the seventh to make it 4-3, but left the bases loaded to end the game after Kaden Rohr flew out to left field. In game two, the Broncos took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. But the Monarchs rallied with a single run in the fourth and two in the fifth to go up 3-2. Russell tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Rohr. TMP won it in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double by Ryan Schippers.

Taylor Rome (2-2) and Brandon Bachar (0-1) took the losses.

The Broncos had 13 hits in the doubleheader. Brady Dinkel and Grant Weber led the way with three hits each.

Russell is 12-8 and of their eight losses, seven have been decided by just one run.

The Broncos are off now until Monday, May 19 when they compete in the Larned 4A Div. 2 Regional. Russell plays Hoisington-Claflin at 2pm. We'll have the game on Classic Hits 95.9 and KRSL.com.
