Russell High School is headed to the state baseball tournament for the first time since 2008 and fourth time in school history after winning the Larned 4A Div. 2 Regional on Monday, May 19 at Moffet Stadium.
The Broncos pounded out 16 hits and scored 18 runs, both season highs, in an 18-5 win over Hoisington-Claflin in the semifinals. Russell then overcame an early 2-0 deficit with three runs in the third inning and two in the fifth in a 5-2 victory over Larned in the championship game.
Brandon Ridgley (3-2) went the distance in the win over Hoisington-Claflin and allowed five runs on 11 hits. Taylor Rome (3-2) pitched a complete-game vs. Larned and gave up just four hits and struck out seven.
Russell had 21 hits in the two games. Brady Dinkel led the way with five hits. Ridgley, Rome and Kaden Rohr each had three hits
The Broncos will play Wichita-Trinity (18-4) in the Class 4A Div. 2 State Tournament at the Pratt Community College Field on Thursday, May 29. The game will be broadcast on Classic Hits 95.9 and KRSL.com.Read More Sports
