RHS Qualifies 13 for State Track

KSHSAA LogoOne year after not qualifying an athlete for the state track and field meet, Russell High School has qualified 13 for the annual event in Wichita.

Taelyr Blehm, Austin Donovan, Alaina Gfeller, Noah Gfeller, Matt Pfannenstiel, Michael Pfannenstiel, Delainey Pospichal, Samantha Ptacek, Eric Rourke, Kyle Rourke, Jordan Swanson, Lena Wedel and Sam Wedel all punched their tickets after finishing in the top four of their respective events on Friday, May 23 at the Abilene 4A Regional.

Alaina Gfeller finished third in the 400 M dash and fourth in the long jump. Gfeller along with Samantha Ptacek, Sam Wedel and Lena Wedel took second in the 4x400 M relay and third in the 4x100 M relay.

Noah Gfeller won the 400 M dash. Michael Pfannenstiel took second in the 110 M hurdles. Austin Donovan was third in the shot put. Pfannenstiel along with his brother, Mathew, Gfeller and Eric Rourke placed second in the 4x400 M relay.

Jordan Swanson, Kyle Rourke, Taelyr Blehm and Delainey Pospichal also qualified for state as alternates on the relay teams.

The Russell boys finished eighth in the team standings with 36 points in the Abilene Regional. Goodland won it with 72 points. The Russell girls were 13th with 25 points. Concordia took the girls title with 59 points.

The state track and field meet will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
