Lady Broncos Defeat Minneapolis, Advance to Sub-State Semis

RHS BasketballThe Russell High School girls basketball team defeated Minneapolis 55-29 Monday, February 27 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell to advance to the Sub-State Semifinals Thursday.

The Lady Broncos controlled the game from the opening tip. Russell led 14-5 after the first quarter, 27-11 at the halftime break and 40-23 after three frames.

Russell made 17-of-22 free throws and forced 36 Minneapolis turnovers.

Tiffany Dortland paced Russell with 24 points. She hit three three-pointers and shot 7-of-7 from the foul line. Jaclyn Schulte and Delainey Pospichal followed with 11 points each.

The Lady Broncos improve to 18-3 and have now won 14-straight games. It was also Russell's fourth win over Minneapolis this season.

The Russell girls will now face Ellsworth Thursday evening at 7:30 in Russell in the Sub-State Semifinals as the Lady Bearcats beat Hoisington 41-24 Monday in Ellsworth. The game will be broadcast on 95.9 Jack FM and KRSL.com.

On the other side of the bracket of Monday's Russell 3A Sub-State girls games, TMP-Marian dominated Phillipsburg, 70-22, and Beloit edged Norton, 40-37. TMP and Beloit will play Thursday at 6 PM in Russell.
