Wilson Girls Drop Sub-State Finale

Wilson DragonsSYLVAN GROVE - Raelee Ibarra scored a game-high 25 points and Krysten Bartlett added 16 as the Hutchinson-Central Christian Lady Cougars advanced to the Class 1A Division ll State Tournament with a 70-44 victory over Wilson in the championship game of the girls Sub-State Tournament Saturday evening, March 4 at Sylvan-Lucas Unified Junior-Senior High School.

The Lady Dragons, who were short-handed after sophomore starter Kayleigh Hanzlick was sidelined by an injury suffered in Thursday's semifinal win over Sylvan-Lucas, held an early 5-2 lead before Central Christian stormed back to a 17-11 advantage after one period.

The Lady Cougars widened the margin in the second quarter thanks largely in part to Bartlett's put-backs of teammates' missed shots and three three-point baskets by Ibarra on their way to a 40-19 halftime lead. Ibarra scored 13 points in the second quarter alone. The Lady Dragons were stymied by cold shooting as they managed just three field goals the entire half.

While Wilson outscored Central Christian in the third quarter, the Lady Cougars maintained a 19-point lead and never took their foot off the gas pedal en route to the 26-point victory.

Joining Ibarra and Bartlett in double figures for Central Christian was Kalin Coffey who chipped in 12 points while Wilson was led 12 points from Riley Dietz and nine from Katrina Zorn.

Hutch-Central Christan (14-8) advances to the State Tournament in Dodge City next week while Wilson's season ends with a 15-7 record.
