Russell/Victoria Swept in Opener

RHS BaseballGame 1: Hays High 10, Russell/Victoria 0 (F/6)
Game 2: Hays High 6, Russell/Victoria 0

After being rained out Thursday, the Russell/Victoria baseball team opened its season on Friday, March 31 against the Hays High Indians the HHS Field.

It was a tough day for the Broncos, who were shutout in each game, losing 10-0 in six innings and 6-0.

In the opener, Hays High took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and then broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth. In game two, the Indians scored one in the fourth and five in the sixth. That was more than enough support for Grant Coffman, who tossed a perfect game, retiring all 21 batters he faced over seven innings.

Kyle Farmer (0-1) and Austin Dale (0-1) suffered the losses.

Russell had five hits in game one. Walker Braun, Austin Dale, Kyle Farmer, Brooks Nichols and Tanner Rome each had one hit.

Russell/Victoria (0-2) opens NCAA league play at Ellsworth on Tuesday, April 4 at 4pm. Weather could change that scheduled doubleheader as there is a good chance of rain. Check back to KRSL Russell Radio and KRSL.com for updates.
