Russell/Victoria Rolls in Salina

After being swept by Hays High in their season-opener, the Russell/Victoria baseball team bounced back nicely by rolling to a pair of wins over Sacred Heart in Salina on Thursday, April 6.
The Broncos won 16-7 and 17-7.
In game one, Russell/Victoria took control early with six runs in the second inning and six more in the third. In game two, the Broncos plated three runs in the first inning and four in the second to go up 7-0 and put the game out of reach with a 10-run fifth inning.
Russell/Victoria exploded for 18 hits in the opener. Austin Dale led the way with four hits, including two doubles and two triples, drove in four runs and scored three. Tanner Rome also had four hits, including a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Kyle Farmer, Kirk Huser and Cooper Windholz each had two hits. In game two, the Broncos collected 11 more hits. Nine players had at least one hit. Kyle Farmer and Brooks Nichols each had two hits and drove in three runs. Farmer also scored four times.
Kyle Farmer (1-0) pitched the first four innings of game one and allowed eight runs, seven earned, on six hits for the victory. Walker Braun (1-0) pitched two perfect innings and struck out four for the win in game two.
Russell/Victoria improves to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the NCAA.
The Broncos wrap up a six-game, season-opening road trip on Tuesday, April 11 at Ellinwood at 4pm.Read More Sports
