Russell Senior Legion Wins Dodge City Tournament

Russell Legion Baseball PatchThe Russell "AA" Senior Amercian Legion baseball team went 4-1, winning three games in their final at bat and took the Dodge City Baseball Club Tournament over the weekend, June 16-18.

The three-day tournament field was made up of eight teams from across central and western Kansas - Russell, Hays Eagles, Hays Monarchs, Dodge City, Pratt, Beloit, Great Bend and Butler Co. Most of those teams are "AAA" squads.

Russell opened pool-play on Friday with a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Hays Eagles. Russell had lost their four previous meetings with the Eagles earlier this month.

On Saturday, Russell lost to Butler Co. 12-2 in five innings, but came back later in the day and rallied from 3-0 down to beat the Hays Monarchs 4-3.

On Sunday, Russell scored four runs in the seventh and topped Pratt 8-4 in the semifinals.  In the championship game, Russell earned a 6-4 victory over Butler Co.

Russell improves to 9-6 and will travel to Ellis on Wednesday, June 21. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 6pm.
