RRC Wraps up Summer Season

2017 RRC Summer Sports 1Another summer of youth baseball and softball is in the books for the Russell Recreation Commission. And what a summer it was.

RRC Director Mike Blanke says games began on May 30 and continued through the week of July 10. 195 total games were played during that stretch on the seven fields of the Memorial Park Complex in seven different leagues. Blanke estimates more than 3,000 spectators and more than 200 players attended.

RRC also hosted three tournaments with 71 total teams and more than 2,500 spectators.

2017 RRC Summer Sports 2On top of baseball and softball, RRC offered swim and tennis lessons and art and tumbling classes along with five weekly adult classes.

Blanke would like to thank the 38 volunteer coaches and 23 workers for making the summer a success. He would also like to thank the Russell County Area Community Foundation for the bleacher coverings.
