Victoria rolls to win at #1 Central Plains

Victoria KnightsCLAFLIN-In a game that actually began on Friday but was then suspended by lightning and resumed on Saturday the Victoria Knights Football team used the extra time and preparation to take their game to another level as Victoria avenged a season-opening loss last year with a 34-8 victory over top-ranked Central Plains in the inaugural KRSL Area Game of the Week.

The game was resumed with 6:15 left in the second quarter with the teams deadlocked in a scoreless tie.  It took just 1:56 for Victoria to grab a 6-0 lead an 11-yard run by Collin Kisner.  Kisner added a second score from five yards out and Victoria led 12-0 at halftime after missing both two-point conversion attempts.  Kisner who finished with 96 yards rushing had a third touchdown called back by a holding penalty.

Victoria extended the lead to 20-0 when a Central Plains fumble gave the Knights the ball at the Oilers 34-yard line.  It took just four plays before Cooper Windholz reached the end zone on a three-yard run and the two-point conversion was true. On the first play of the fourth quarter Cooper Pfanenstiel scored from three yards out and the two-point conversion made the score 28-0 in favor of  the Knights. Pfanenstiel, who led all rushers with 119 yards made it 34-0, with a 10 yard run with 6:31 left in the game.

Central Plains broke the shutout with 1:18 left on a 39-yard scoring passs from Myles Menges to Devin Ryan and made the two-point conversion to provide the final margin of 34-8.

Victoria rolled up 342 yards of total offense including 309 yards on the ground.  The Defense held the Oilers to 135 yards of total offense and just six first downs while forcing three turnovers.

Victoria (1-0) will play its home opener next Friday against Macksville.
