Sylvan-Lucas Overwhelms Tescott

Sylvan-Lucas High SchoolOwen Krueger rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns and Sylvan-Lucas used a 40-point explosion in the first quarter to roll past Tescott 68-22 Friday night in Sylvan Grove in a game that ended with 9:05 left in the third quarter due to the 45-point rule.

Quarterback R.J. Haberer opened the scoring with an 11-yard run two-minutes into the game and then the Mustangs Defense stepped up with Caiden Rivers returning a Zach Perry pass 32 yards for a touchdown.   After a Trojan fumble, Haberer connected with Dominick Montiel from 27 yards out to make the score 24-0 with less than four minutes gone in the game.  Krueger's 60-yard run and a two-yard run by Beau Batchman made it 40-0 after 12 minutes of action.

With Sylvan-Lucas playing many backups, the two teams played even in the second quarter.  Logan Srna accounted for all of Tescott's scoring with three touchdown runs of three, 49 and and four yards.  The Mustangs scores came from Krueger's 36-yard run, a 10-yard run by backup Quarterback Tyler Barrientes and a 29-yard pass on fourth down from Barrientes to Wyatt Hiitter.  The Mustangs could have finished the game on the final play of the first half but Barrientes' pass to Batchman was overthrown leaving the score at 62-22.

After Tescott turned the ball over on downs on their first second half possession, it took just four plays for Sylvan-Lucas to finish off the game on an eight-yard run by Barrientes.

The Mustangs finished the game with 317 yards of total offense including 261 yards rushing.

Sylvan-Lucas (2-0) will host intra-county rival Lincoln next Friday with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
