Krueger Leads Mustangs Past Dragons

Sylvan-Lucas High SchoolSYLVAN GROVE-Owen Krueger rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns as the Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs put an exclamation point on a successful regular season with a 48-0 shutout of arch-rival Wilson Thursday evening at Weatherman Field.

On a cold and blustery night, Wilson won the toss but deferred and ended up going with the wind, but that seemed to make little difference to the Mustangs who ran every play but one on the ground.  Krueger rushed 51 yards on the first play from scrimmage and then rushed for 14 more and his first touchdown for an 8-0 lead. Just two minutes and 55 seconds later, Krueger scored again this time from 26 yards out to give the Mustangs a 16-0 lead after the two-point conversion.

On Sylvan-Lucas' third drive, a penalty set them back at their own 10-yard line but Krueger then rushed 70 yards for his third score for a 24-0 lead.

Krueger would add a fourth touchdown on Defense with a 25-yard fumble return while Beau Batchman and Tyler Barrientes tallied touchdowns of 35 and three yards respectively.  The game ended at halftime due to the 45-point rule.  The only bad news of the night for Sylvan-Lucas occurred on the first play of the second quarter when Senior Quarterback R.J. Haberer left the game with an apparent knee injury.  His status for the playoffs is unknown at this time.

Sylvan-Lucas (8-1, 4-1) rolled up 280 yards of total offense while the Mustang Defense hald the Dragons to 56 total yards.  Wilson (1-8, 0-5) was boosted by the return of Grant Weinhold who has battled injuries all season and faces his sixth surgery in two years very soon.  Weinhold picked up a first down on a run and finished with five carries for 19 yards in his final game.

Sylvan-Lucas will face Otis-Bison in the first round of the 8-Man Division ll Playoffs on November 3.  The Cougars were 58-26 winners over Hodgeman County to claim their District Championship.
