Burlingame Defeats Victoria, Ends Knights Season

Victoria KnightsThe Victoria Knights football season came to an end Friday, November 3 in Burlingame with a 34-24 loss to the undefeated Bearcats in the first round of the 8-Man Division I playoffs.

Neither team scored in the first quarter, but Burlingame (10-0) quarterback Dalton Sporing put the Bearcats on the board early in the second quarter with a five-yard touchdown run and added another TD at the 5:45 mark in the second period on a 53-yard run. Neither of the two-point conversion attempts were successful. Victoria (7-3) answered with 4:27 left in the first half on a 51-yard touchdown run by running back Tyler Knoles, and with only 35 seconds to go in the half, Knight quarterback Cooper Windholz hooked up with running back Cooper Pfanenstiel for a 69-yard TD pass. Both two-point conversions were good and Victoria took a 16-12 lead into the break.

Burlingame started the third frame much like it started the second quarter, with two quick scores. Bearcat running back Seth Greenwood ran in a five-yard touchdown only 16 seconds in to the period and backup quarterback Montana Giffin followed that with a five-yard TD pass to wide receiver Caiden Musick. That second score was only a 10-yard drive, set up by a blocked punt. Both two-point conversions were successful and the Bearcats held a 28-16 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The Knights opened the fourth quarter scoring with 9:41 to play in the game with a 10-yard touchdown run by running back Collin Kisner to cap off an eight-play, 55-yard drive. The two-point conversion was good to make it a four point game. However, Burlingame forced a couple late interceptions and scored again on a 32-yard TD pass from Giffin to Greenwood to put the game away.

Victoria outgained Burlingame 322 yards to 251. The Knights totaled 186 yards rushing and 136 yards passing. The Bearcats had 210 yards rushing and 41 yards passing.

Knoles led Victoria with 64 yards rushing. Windholz had all 136 yards passing. Pfanenstiel finished with three catches for 90 yards.

Sporing led Burlingame with 102 yards rushing.
