Wilson Rolls to Sweep of Natoma

Wilson DragonsWILSON-Riley Dietz scored 19 points and Katie Zelenka added 10 as the Wilson Lady Dragons pulled away from a feisty Natoma squad 55-25 in Girls Basketball action Tuesday evening.   

Wilson led 9-3 after the first quarter but in the second period Hannah Chambray helped draw the Lady Tigers closer with six points to cut the deficit to 19-12 by halftime.  Dietz then began the third quarter with two quick buckets to help the Lady Dragons outscore Natoma 10-3 during that eight minute span for a 14-point lead.  In the fourth quarter, Wilson turned on the afterburners and pulled away for their sixth straight win after losing their season opener  Dietz and Zelenka combined for 17 points and Freshman Kamryn Thrasher added two three-point baskets.

Peyton Ostmeyer led Natoma with 14 points including 10 in the fourth quarter alone but the effort wasn't enough to get the Lady Tigers their first win of the season.

In the Boys contest, Jayden Bess scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as Wilson routed Natoma 58-30.  The Dragons jumped out to an early 11-0 lead over the stunned Tigers enroute to a 17-4 advantage after the first eight minutes.  In the second quarter, however, Natoma showed some fight when Junior Vaughn Stull scored eight of his team-leaading 14 points to pull the Tigers to within 24-16.  Bess hit a shot at the buzzer to lengthen Wilson's lead to 34-22.

In the third quarter, the Dragons pulled away for their fourth consecutive victory outscoring the Tigers 20-3 while much of the fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

Joining Bess in double figures for Wilson were Ethan Dlabl with 13 points and Brady Mermis with 12.

Both teams now head into the Christmas break.  Wilson resumes play on January 5 at Southern Cloud while Natoma's next game is January 9 at Sylvan-Lucas.
