Sylvan-Lucas Earns Sweep of Natoma

Sylvan-Lucas High SchoolSYLVAN GROVE-Kerstin Decker scored 11 points and was among nine players who scored as the Sylvan-Lucas Lady Mustangs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 37-13 victory Tuesday evening on the Sylvan-Lucas campus.  

The Mustangs led 15-2 after one period after leading 11-0 to start the game with a pressing defense that forced the Lady Tigers into numerous turnovers and jump balls.  Natoma's best period was the fourth when they oustscored Sylvan-Lucas 7-4.  Peyton Ostmeyer led the Lady Tigers who are still seeking their first win this season with seven points.

In the Boys game, Dylan Streit scored 17 points while J.C. Huehl added 16 thanks largely to four three-pointers as Sylvan-Lucas broke open a close game in the third quarter en route to a 65-33 win. 

Sylvan-Lucas scored the game's first 10 points as Natoma missed several shots at close range.  In the second quarter however, the Tigers found their game as Vaughn Stull led the way with six of his team-high 12 points to help Natoma pull to within 19-17 at halftime.  The third quarter belonged to Sylvan-Lucas as the Mustangs outscored the Tigers 29-7 with Streit and Huehl combining for 16 of those points.  The Mustangs widened the lead enough for the game to finish its last three minutes with a running clock.

With the victory, Sylvan-Lucas improves to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in Northern Plains League action while Natoma drops to 2-6 and 0-3 in league play.

Both teams on Wednesday will learn their seeding and their pairing in the upcoming Northern Plains League Tournament which begins later this week.
