Russell Girls Advance to Sub-State Semifinal

Russell Bronco BasketballThe Russell High School girls basketball team earned a trip to the Sub-State Semifinals for the seventh consecutive year with a 50-31 victory over Hoisington on Tuesday, February 27 at Amos Morris Gym in Russell.

Both teams started slow. Russell led only 10-7 after the first quarter and 16-12 at the half. The Lady Broncos got going in the third period. Russell outscored Hoisington 19 to 7 in the third stanza and held a 35-19 lead heading into the final quarter. Russell's offense continued clicking in the fourth frame and the Lady Broncos cruised to the win.

Jaclyn Schulte led Russell with 19 points. Tiffany Dortland followed with 16 points. Sam Leiker scored 11 points.

The Russell girls improve to 18-3 overall.

The Lady Broncos will face second-seeded Beloit in the 3A Sub-State Semifinals in Minneapolis on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 PM. The Lady Trojans defeated Minneapolis 64-42 on Tuesday night. It will be the third time Russell and Beloit have played this season. Beloit won both previous games by one point each. Friday's game will be broadcast on KRSL AM 990, 98.1 FM and KRSL.com.
