Russell Girls Finish Sub-State Runners-Up

Russell Girls 2018 Sub-State Runners-UpThe Russell High School girls basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday, March 3 in Minneapolis with a 38-36 loss to TMP-Marian in the Sub-State Championship game.

The game was tight throughout and neither team could really pull away. TMP led 14-10 after the first quarter, 22-18 at the half and 31-27 after three periods. Russell had a couple chances in the final seconds of the game to tie or take the lead, but turned the ball over with only two seconds left, allowing the Lady Monarchs to escape with the two-point win.

Lady Bronco seniors Jaclyn Schulte and Sam Leiker paced Russell with 15 and 12 points. Schulte ends her RHS career with 1,054 points.

The Russell girls finish the season 19-4 overall and 10-2 in the North Central Activities Association. The Lady Broncos were the 2017 Amos Morris-George Stephens Classic Tournament Runners-Up, Champions of the 2018 Hoisington Winter Jam Tournament, NCAA League Runners-Up and Minneapolis 3A Sub-State Runners-Up.

The TMP-Marian Lady Monarchs move on to the 2018 3A State Tournament in Hutchinson next week with a 20-2 record. It's their third-straight State Tournament appearance.
