Russell/Victoria Swept by Hays High

The Russell/Victoria high school baseball team got its season started on Thursday, March 29 at home against Hays High at the Shaffer Sports Complex in Russell.

The Broncos led 2-0 after the first inning in the opener, but Hays scored in each inning after for a 10-2 victory. In game two, the Indians jumped out to an 11-4 lead after the first inning. Russell/Victoria cut the deficit to 11-7 with three runs in the second. But Hays High answered with a 10-run fourth and went on to a 22-8 victory in five innings.

Russell/Victoria was held to two hits and committed nine errors in game one. Walker Braun and Kyle Farmer each had singles. In game two, the Broncos finished with eight hits. Braun led the way with three hits including a triple. Caden Oberle had two hits.

Kyle Farmer (0-1) allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits and struck out six over three innings and took the loss in the opener. Walker Braun (0-1) suffered the loss in game two, allowing eight runs over two-thirds of an inning.

Russell/Victoria (0-2) continues an eight-game season-opening homestand on Tuesday, April 3 when they open league play against Ellsworth. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 4pm in Russell.
