Russell Champion MascottGame 1: TMP-Marian 12, Russell-Victoria 4
Game 2: TMP-Marian 10, Russell-Victoria 1

The Russell-Victoria Baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end Thursday as the Broncos fell twice to arch-rival TMP-Marian by scores of 12-4 and 10-1 at the Shaffer Field Complex.

The Broncos plated two runs in the first inning of Game 1 on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk to Cole Schmidtberger.  Beginning in the third inning the Monarchs scored 12 unanswered runs, plating three in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and four more in the sixth aided by a 10-hit attack and five Russell-Victoria errors.

Trailing 12-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Broncos extended the game on an RBI groundout by Kyler Fritschen and added another run in the seventh when Schmidtberger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Starting pitcher Kyle Farmer (3-2) worked the first four innings and took the loss while Koby Decker worked the final three frames.

In Game 2, the Monarchs jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning with the benefit of four walks and a hit batsman while managing just one base hit.  TMP added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before scoring three more times in the seventh.  The Broncos avoided the shutout when Fritschen reached on an error with two outs in the bottom of the seventh allowing Decker to score.  Schmidtberger (1-1) was charged with the loss as Bronco pitching struggled in the nightcap, issuing 15 walks and hitting six batters. TMP's Chase Werth allowed one hit in five innings of work with 10 strikeouts and he struck out the side in two different innings.

Russell-Victoria (8-4) will next be in action on Tuesday, May 1 when they travel to Beloit for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
