Lady Broncos Split in Colby

The Russell High School softball team closed out the regular-season on Monday, May 7 in Colby with a split against the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Broncos scored two runs in each of the first three innings to go up 6-2 and added another pair of runs in the fifth to win the opener 8-3. In game two, Colby scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 8-7.

Russell out-hit Colby 10-4 in the opener. Abi Cross, Whitney Nuss and Taylor Powers each had two hits. Colby out-hit the Lady Broncos 11-9 in game two. Powers and Kendra Bay each had two hits. Darian Klee homered.

Nuss (5-10) tossed a complete-game to earn the win in game one. Bay (1-3) suffered the loss in relief in game two.

Russell is now 6-13 and will play in the Beloit 3A Regional starting on Monday, May 14. The bracket for the tournament will be released on Wednesday, May 9.
