Russell/Victoria Splits Regular-Season Finale

The Russell/Victoria baseball team closed out the 2018 regular-season on Thursday, May 10 by splitting a make-up doubleheader with Ellsworth at the Shaffer Complex in Russell.

The Bearcats scored five runs in the top of the eighth to break a 7-7 tie and then held off Russell/Victoria in the bottom of the inning to win the opener 12-9. In game two, the Broncos took a 10-5 lead to the seventh and held off Ellsworth for a 10-8 victory.

Russell/Victoria had seven hits in game one. Cooper Windholz had three hits. Walker Braun homered and drove in three runs. In game two, the Broncos collected eight hits. Braun, Koby Decker and Caden Oberle each had two hits.

Kyle Farmer pitched 4.1 innings of relief and took the loss in game one. Cooper Swanson tossed four innings of three hit ball for the win in game two.

Between games, six seniors were recognized along with their parents (pictured) - Koby Decker, Kyle Farmer, Zach Hendrich, Brooks Nichols, Cole Schmidtberger and Cooper Swanson.

Russell/Victoria closes out the regular-season with a 10-8 record and will play in the Hoisington 4A Div. 2 Regional on Tuesday, May 15. The Broncos open against Smoky Valley (6-12) at 3:30pm. The game will be broadcast on KRSL 95.9 and streamed on KRSL.com.
