Russell Sr. Legion Splits Season-Opening Twinbill

Russell Senior Legion 7-1-17Game 1: Russell 10, Lincoln 0

Game 2: Lincoln 18, Russell 5

After a 24-hour delay, the Russell Senior American Legion Baseball team opened the 2018 season Wednesday evening at Shaffer Field with a doubleheader split against Lincoln.

Russell prevailed in the opener 10-0 behind five RBI's off the bat of Tanner Rome and an oustanding pitching performance by Cade Evans (1-0).  Evans needed just 31 pitches for the complete game victory and allowed just one hit, a single by Kyle Shipley while retiring 12 of the 14 batters he faced in the contest.

Game 2 was a different story as Lincoln exploded for 20 hits off four Russell pitchers and also benefitted from six Russell errors en route to an 18-5 victory.  Starting pitcher Josh Foster (0-1) was tagged with the loss.  Kyle Farmer led Russell on offense with two hits.

Russell Senior Legion is back at Shaffer Field on Friday for a doubleheader with Norton. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
