Coleman Named RHS Head Boys Basketball Coach

Michael ColemanMichael Coleman has been hired as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach at Russell High School.

The hire was made official by the USD 407 Board of Education on Wednesday.

Coleman is a New Jersey native and graduate of Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1998 and earned a Master of Arts degree in History in 2003.

Coleman's coaching has taken him to several schools and teams across the country.

Coleman has coached high school basketball in Virginia, New Jersey, New Mexico, Arizona, Ohio and Kansas. He was an assistant coach at Division III Drew University in New Jersey for two seasons and was also an assistant coach for one season with the Salina Saints semi-pro basketball team in Salina.Michael Coleman with KBAF Team

Coleman currently resides in Newton and has lived in Kansas for the last eight years.

Since he's been in Kansas, Coleman and Emmanuel Adigun, a longtime coaching friend of his, have operated the Kansas Basketball Academy Foundation (KBAF).

He will continue working with KBAF in Russell.

Coleman replaces Eric Swanson, who announced in April he was leaving Russell to take the Parsons High School Principal job in southeastern Kansas.

Swanson coached the Broncos for five years. He went 16-89 as Head Boys Basketball Coach at RHS.
