Hill City Sweeps Russell Jr. Legion

American LegionGame 1: Hill City 5, Russell 3

Game 2: Hill City 16, Russell 11

The Russell Junior American Legion Baseball squad played on its home diamond for the first time this season Friday evening but it was the Hill City AA team that was victorious, sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 16-11 at Shaffer Field.

In the first game, Kaden Baalman took the loss for Russell despite tossing a complete game and registering 10 strikeouts.  Offensively, Braden Ford led Russell with three hits.

In the nightcap, Hill City broke an 11-11 tie with five runs in the top of the seventh to claim the sweep.  Ford once again had three hits and helped lead the charge for a seven-run Russell rally in the bottom of the third inning.  Paxton Swanson also collected two hits.

Kaden Rome took the loss for Russell in relief of starting pitcher Brady Kasper.

The Russell Junior Legion now has four games coming up over a two-day period.  They're on the road Sunday evening for a twinbill at Kinsley AA at 6 p.m. and then have another doubleheader Monday at 5 p.m. in Dodge City against their Single A team.
