Colby, Rain Dampen Russell's Homecoming

Russell Bronco FootballThe Russell Bronco football team lost 44-0 to the Colby Eagles on Friday, October 5 in a homecoming game in Russell that was called at halftime due to severe weather.

Colby (6-0, 3-0 3A District 8) scored four touchdowns in the first quarter, two through the air and two on the ground, and led 28-0 after one period.

The Eagles scored another rushing TD and another passing TD in the second quarter. The skies opened up with rain and lightning during the halftime break and the game was called after about a 30 minute delay.

The Broncos (2-4, 0-3 3A District 8) totaled just 24 yards on the ground and 32 yards through the air.

Colby totaled 245 yards on the ground and 85 yards through the air. Running back Calvin Stapp rushed for 122 yards on 11 carries.

Stapp rushed for one touchdown and caught another. Colby quarterback Jordan Schippers passed for three touchdowns and rushed for two more. Running back Isaac Rosales caught two TDs.

The Broncos travel to Goodland on Friday, October 12. Catch the game on KRSL AM 990, 98.1 FM and KRSL.com with pregame coverage starting at 6:30 PM. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.

Also Friday night, AJ Oste and Emma Morgenstern were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.
